Introduction to Paracord

Paracord started out with a very intentional use:
the suspension lines of parachutes.
Its uses have expanded exponentially since its invention in 1935.
DID YOU KNOW?
Paracord has been apart of some really important missions.
Like being used by astronauts …
for the 82nd Space Shuttle mission to repair the Hubble Space Telescope.
And the WWII Airborne infantry parachutes…
To glide down and take out some enemies!
So paracord is kind of a big deal.
Wallace Caruthers Invented Nylon, the key material in paracord, which led to its use by the US Department of Defense for Parachutes (Source).
It has gathered a reputation for its strength and versatility and eventually it was found to be useful for many innovative and inventive projects.
Today, we find paracord ALL over.
There are many types of paracord, the standard is Type III Military Spec 550 Paracord. But paracord has several variations in strength and inner strand count.
The most common commercial variation has 7 inner strands which is usually 550 paracord.
Its used for many survival and outdoor activities like securing a tent or food and keeping you out of trouble in the wilderness.

Getting Started
Buying Paracord
550 paracord comes in many colors and patterns but the truly strong and durable paracord has several characteristics to keep in mind.
I always buy American made 550 Paracord from companies that also sell directly to the USA Military. Their quality has to be up to spec in order to deal with the government and it provides a layer of protection against low quality paracord that comes from other countries like China.
I sell 100% genuine 550 paracord on Paracord Crate Shop as well as on eBay Store if thats where you prefer. There are also other great places to buy paracord like paracord.com and Amazon. I appreciate any support you give to my store as it allows me to expand the cool stuff I can offer to the paracord community. God Bless.
